Annapurna Region "The great white peaks" The Annapurna region lies toward the north of Central Nepal. This is dominated by Annapurna Himal and the town of Pokhara. This fascinating land of biodiversity is the largest protected area of Nepal, known as the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA). The unique biodiversity, the scenic grandeur in combination with the multi-cultural and multi-ethnic diversity make it the world's most popular trekking destination. The region has been recognized as one of the world's best trekking trails according to a recent survey by Modern Maturity (USA).
It follows the Kali Gandaki valley between the soaring peaks of Annapurna (Annapurna I 8091m) and Dhaulagiri (Dhaulagiri I 8167m) mountains range and then emerges north of the main Himalayan range, on the dry, desert ancient kingdom of Lo-Mangthant like Tibetan plateau.
Gateway to Annapurna trekking region is the famous city of Pokhara. The most prominent ethnic groups of Annapurna region are Gurung, Thakali and Manange. Animals found here are pika, blue sheep and Himalayan Thar and vegetation ranges from tropical species to temperate forest of oak, beech and rhododendron.
