The Royal Bardia National Park lies in the mid-far western region of Nepal and is the largest most spoilt wilderness area in the Terai. It covers an area of 968 sq km, the park, and a sub-tropical jungle, is thickly forested b tress and carpeted with grass, savannah and riverside vegetation. The Churia boarders the north, the Karnali River the west, while the Babai Rivers cuts its course through the middle of the parks. On the southern fringes are the villages of the indigenous and unique Tharu people of western Nepal. Considered as one of the most picturesque national parks in Asia, The Royal Bardia National Park teems with rich and diverse flora and fauna. The park is home of the elusive Bengal tiger and three are 30 more species of other mammals, such as Bears, monkeys, civets, hyenas, wild dogs, otters, wild boar, leopards and deer. It is a regenerated habitat for endangered animals like the tiger, Rhinoceros wild elephant (the park harbors the largest wild tusker in Asia) and the Black buck. There are more than 350 spices of birds which include the cormorants, egret, stork, geese, jungle foul, kingfisher, horn bills plus endangered species such as the Bengal florican, silver eared mesia and the saurus. The Park headquarters is about a four hour drive from the town of Nepalgunj which is linked to the Kathmandu by road (531km) and by air 75 Minutes.
